Co-Leader:
Location: The Forge Lemont Quarries

Skill Level:  Beginner

Category:  Day trip

Details: Hidden Gems invites club members to experience some of our area's lesser-known lakes.

Organized jointly and attended with MeetUp.com members in mind. Some PSC experienced members are encouraged to attend.

This paddle is for beginners. No river currents. No eddy turns. Just quiet flat water. No time limits. It’s not a race. Flat water on a secluded lake is a perfect place to practice your paddling techniques, or your new gear while you enjoy a few of hours watching the nature around you. Wildlife abounds at the lake.

Are you new to the sport? Maybe you just bought a new boat and want to try it out? Join us. This is not an instructional course. However, I can show you some of the techniques I use to make my day on the water more safe and enjoyable.

Where:

-The Forge Lemont Quarries

-There is a portable restroom here.

-From Main St. in Lemont, turn to cross the railroad tracks at Talcott Ave. Immediately after crossing the tracks turn right and follow the signs to The Forge (caution 10 mph speed limit here). Parking Lot 1 is another 1/2 mile down from where the I&M Trail Passage switches to gravel.

When:

-We will meetup at the parking lot by 9:30am to off-load our boats and gear, and to sign waivers. We should get into the water sometime between 11:00am and 11:30am.

-There is trailer parking in this lot.

What to bring:

-All paddlers must bring their own boat, paddle and PFD. Club policy requires PFDs be worn at all times while on the water.

-Bring plenty of water and remember to pack a lunch. Alcohol is not allowed at club events.

-I highly recommend you also pack a “dry bag” with a change of clothes.
