Report:  We enjoyed a leisurely paddle down the lazy Rock River, south out of Horicon to the north end of Sinissippi Lake, upper 70’s with very little wind. The river meanders thru open farmland, some forest and with many reed filled bays / ox bows off of the river, some large enough to water ski in. In those large bays it was nice to have the “no wake zone” buoys to mark the river channel, as it’s easy to go into a bay thinking that it’s the main channel. When we thought we were “lost” we would ask a local fisherman for advice and direction, which for the most part proved wise. One of the most interesting things about the trip was trying to determine what was making that “spitting” sound along the edges of the reeds. One thought was mating mud carp, another was beaver, another bear; the final decision is still out for debate. We also encountered VERY LITTLE boat/jet ski traffic since the river was lined with marinas & private launches; we thought that it being Fathers Day we would have to fight to stay upright with all the waves. The “planned” trip was supposed to be about 5.5 miles, but as we entered Lake Sinissippi we kinda / sorta got turned around and ended up adding about 2 extra miles to our adventure. When we first entered the lake we asked a local where was the lake, duh – we were on the lake, then “” I “” asked him were was the main part of the lake; this lead us on a 2 mile detour but a great view of the upper part of the lake. After we spotted a family swimming of a little island, they graciously pointed us in the right direction (after reviewing a GOOD lake map) which was reverse of the way we just came. Again, for some reason, there was very little boat / jet ski traffic for such a gorgeous day. Also, there was almost no wind, if we had had the head wind of the previous day, we would have never made it in that lake – HUGE. Reminder to self: acquire a GOOD lake map and drink very little liquid prior to the trip, as there is no public places to stop. Thanks to Rich for car shifting & Anna for keeping our boats safe.
