From the Chair:
PSC web site: http://www.psc.ctsserver.com
As you paddle the rivers that make up your canoe season with the Club, I know that the state of the river - scenery, cleanliness of the river and its banks, and water quality - are an important part of what makes canoeing a passion for each of us. We cannot change the scenery, at least not easily or quickly, but we can improve cleanliness and, as a result, water quality. One of the most effective ways of doing this is to participate in one of the river cleanups run by PSC. From the list of 100 or more trips offered by the Club, we all choose some trips we will paddle. This year, please include one or more river cleanups on that personal list. You will make a contribution to the paddling well being of yourself and others. You will also gain an understanding of the distance we, as a society, have to travel before we have integrated an ecological perspective into our everyday lives.
I have one other request for you as you paddle: think about taking a more active role in the Club. The easiest way to do this is by offering to serve as a member of the Board. It is still early in the year - elections for the Board do not occur until the November dinner - but it is not too early to consider how you can give something back to the Club. Talk to current Board members about their experiences as you paddle with them this year or give any of us a call.
See you on the river,
Bill

Trip Report
Trip # 12 Feb 25
Elkhorn Creek, KY
We had a typical Kentucky day with glorious sunshine and 65 degrees. Ya'll don't have winters like that up in the tundra - that's what I tell all my Yankee (ED note: They've been south too long - Yankee is capitalized!) friends anyway. The Elkhorn has changed again this year and two of the rapids are easier now. The roots are gone from root-wad run and angioplasty has recently undergone another procedure. With a gauge reading of one foot, we did not scrape and there were ample play spots. With the high rock palisades reflecting the bright sunshine, we were treated to a very pretty paddle. Bubba Weider
